Trust (Freesia)

In Victorian England, if I were to receive a bouquet that included freesia I would know the giver saw me as innocent, trustworthy and thoughtful. Even though trust is not listed in the Biblical passage where we find the other “fruit of the Spirit” that inspired this series for me, all the other fruits (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control) point towards a trustworthy person.

i originally titled this piece “for friendship”, as this is the kind of friend I want, and want to be.

Painted using walnut-based oils on gallery sized canvas (1.5 inches thick). I have painted the sides of the canvas to seamlessly continue the image so that no framing is necessary.
